Craig Anderson shared a house with Hawaiian heavyweight Sunny Garcia on the North Shore during early season ’08. Garcia’s bid to requalify came to an abrupt end during the O’Neill Sunset World Cup and you’d think it would have made him a gnarly housemate. Ando shrugs, “He’s a nice guy when you get to know him. He told me if I had any hassles to mention I was staying with Sunny.” But then Ando could share a house with a starved lioness and have a good time. He goes with the flow - in the water and on land. The waves weren’t that great at the start of the BK trip, but Craig was always eager. If he was awake, he was surfing, looking at the surf or watching surf movies. He’d deal with controversies like he deals with fat sections... smoothly and without interruption to his internal rhythm. “We’re going to Queensland? Okay, let’s go. We’re surfing this measly little half-wave? Okay, let’s do it. Bosko’s cranking Danzig again? Okay, good for him.” Perhaps Craig’s South African background has helped him appreciate the gifted life he currently leads. He’s certainly not one to waste an opportunity. For the BK series he invested in a Sony HD camera so his mates could film him blowing up around Newcastle. His silky smooth style, rad airs and growing ability in Hawaii will make him a favourite in the final tally.
