It’s been a turbulent three months for Shaun Harrington. The global economic tsunami has turned his free ‘n’ easy life upside down so quickly he’s wearing his pants around his head. Not that he’s floundering about looking for a life raft or anything. Life goes on. “I’m looking for another sponsor so I can do heaps of freesurfing trips this year. I’m want to get back to WA and hunt some dirty big slabs down south. We’ve got a ski and all the gear over there now so I’m ready to roll.” In the mean time, Hazza has banded up with Luke Dorrington (also down a sponsor) with a plan to start a Gold Coast lawn mowing business. Hazza was a no show down in Forster for the first stage of the BKII trip, but even that setback worked in his favour. “I heard the surf was pretty rank down there and all the boys were back up here pretty quick so I think I made the right move,” he says. While Hazza is notorious for his escapades out of the water, the clips he’s accumulated for this competition show a man with a rare mix of talent and humour. If surfing is ever in danger of taking itself too seriously? An injection on Shaun Harrington is a sure fire remedy. It’s a talent that will go to waste behind a lawn mower. Let’s hope the Black Knight series puts him back in the limelight. A vote for Hazza is a vote for good times.
